Following the penultimate round of conference championship games, the stage is set for Super Bowl LVIII and the world will see the AFC’s Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs return to the biggest stage for the fourth time in five years, as they take on the NFC’s best San Fransisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Below, Kambi’s Head of NFL Pre-match, David Ball, shares his insights ahead of the biggest annual event in world sport.

Q: What makes the Super Bowl such an important event for sports betting?

There is massive media attention on the Super Bowl, which will only increase this year with the Taylor Swift – Travis Kelce relationship. For US partners it’s the most bet on single game of the year and it’s impact extends beyond. That makes it important to offer a vast variety of offers to cater to the increased interest.

Q: What makes the Super Bowl different from other events when it comes to betting?

A: All of the novelty props make the Super Bowl offering unique. The big game always delivers something unexpected and part of the fun is predicting the unpredictable. Last year saw big payouts on any Field Goal or Extra Point attempt to hit the uprights or crossbar, as well as there to be an Octopus (when a TD scorer also scores on the 2pt conversion).

Q: What are some of the popular markets that we should keep an eye on?

A: Super Bowl MVP is always a big one and 3rd favourite (after the Quarterbacks) Christian McCaffrey has a good chance to be the first Running Back to win the award since the 90s. We offer this market in-game, where it’s interesting to see the movement after big moments. McCaffrey will also get a lot of action for First Touchdown Scorer but there could be some value on Chiefs players if the 49ers start slowly.

Q: What will Kambi be delivering from a product perspective for the Super Bowl?

A: We pride ourselves on a high-volume offering with good availability before and during the game. Pre-game we have been even quicker to market, thanks to an experienced team able to use knowledge from previous Super Bowls. In-game we have significantly expanded our in-event combinations, which includes main game offers, half and quarter markets and various player props. Our live team puts an emphasis on low countdowns (for bets going through) and limited suspensions. Throughout the playoffs they have delivered a low-friction experience without taking risks that could hurt our partners.
